The San Francisco Funk Festival was founded and is owned and operated by John Miles, and Robbie Kowal, who are also the principals in Sunset Promotions. We could not have gotten this off the ground back in 2001-2004 without the help of legendary funkophile Mike Burns.

· John Miles, Founder, Co-Producer: As founder of Sunset Promotions, John has been producing concerts in the Bay Area for 5 years. He is also the producer and talent buyer of the North Beach Jazz Festival and a manager for San Francisco Carnival. John is a passionate advocate for underserved genres such as Latin, Brazillian, Funk, Soul and Cuban music.

· Robert Kowal, Founder, Co-Producer: As principal in Sunset Promotions, an experienced public relations professional and a touring DJ, Robert Kowal brings a variety of skills to the Funk Festival. Robert is also the editor of the Bay Area "WhatDaFunk Newsletter" and has worked as a freelance journalist for Citysearch, Bass Player Magazine, Jambase, and Hittin the Note. As an accomplished funk DJ and writer on the subject, Robert has an in-depth knowledge of the music, it's history and its audience.

Michael Burns, Founder, Co-Producer: Mike Burns has been producing music for more than 30 years in New Orleans, Indiana, and San Francisco. Mike's most recent coup was producing the historic reunion of the Original Meters in 2000. Mike is the proprietor of several successful businesses besides working with his partners to create and produce the San Francisco Funk Festival.
